Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200412-7BDEA-2147372958. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Bosch Buderus SSB120 (Bosch Buderus SSB120 Boiler). Incident: This incident happened on two of these boilers. Once on about 11/9/19 and then again on 4/10/20. The first boiler was installed in December of 2018 and the second in November of 2019. The first boiler was replaced under warranty by Bosch and they had the unit shipped back to their offices for examination. The second unit has been shut off and we are waiting for resolution. The boiler chamber where the gas is ignited appears to have a flaw. When burning the the side of the boiler chamber inside the boiler heats up so much that it glows bright orange. Bosch confirmed this is not supposed to happen. It melts the wiring inside the unit. It has also melted the insulation inside the boiler. The first unit stopped working because the wiring was melted completely. The second unit we caught the issues as we smelled and saw smoke from the unit. This is a major fire hazard, Most people would never check on their boilers. These run at all hours and I would hate to think what would have happened if this caught fire while we were sleeping. There must be a design or manufacturing flaw as we have had the exact same issue happen on two boilers. We have photos of the boilers.
