Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200416-02198-2147372870. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Generac Generator 0060531 (Generac Generator Full house generator Model 0060531). Incident: I received a March 2020 letter from General wherein they indicated that there maybe a safety issue with my Generac Generator. They advised that the issue may be a significant corrosion of the fuel plenum may lead to a potential fuel leak during generator operation, resulting in the risk of a unit fire. They indicated that the corrosion can occur over time when the generator is exposed to various factors. The letter recommended that I contact immediately with an independent Generac Authorized Service Dealer to perform a maintenance inspection. The letter said that there was a cost for this inspection. I contacted Generac and asked questions. One being if safety issues cannot afford to pay. They agreed to pay for the inspection. The inspection was performed on April 9th. The gentleman told my husband that there was corrosion and he would have to replace parts. He also told my husband that was going to happen again. I contacted [REDACTED] from Generac and advised him of this and told him that we do maintenance on the generator twice a year. I do not have the special equipment needed to check for corrosion And can not afford to pay AC/DC to come out twice a year at a cost of $220.00 if no issues. If the parts need replaced it is at my costs. I told Generac That the system should not be getting corroded. I asked if had any intentions on making sure this doesnt happen and was basically told they paid once and that it. I believe that this is a design flaw and they should either have to replace generator or make replacement as I worry now about possible fire.
