Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200425-C7357-2147372722. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Throwback - Williams Sonoma Throwback Quartz Popcorn maker RH-906 (We received the Throwback Quartz Popcorn maker from Williams Sonoma on April 9. Using it last night, as we turned the popper over and lifted the base from the bowl, the heated plate fell away (it's intended to be separated), leaving popcorn to fall into the heating element. A fire quickly ensued, spreading across the counter. We were fortunate in that the fire didn't reach other flammables in the kitchen before we were able to extinguish it. This seems to be a serious (and dangerous) design flaw. I'd also add that the popper is surprisingly flimsy, with the popping base handles subject to bending and twisting - which would keep the plate from fitting back into the heater base...which could lead to additional risk.). Incident: We purchased a Throwback Quartz Popcorn Popper from Williams Sonoma, received on April 9. Searching online for this popper, it looks like the same model is being sold on Amazon under no less than three different brands: [REDACTED].
