Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200507-EE4C8-2147372470. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Maytag MDB7749SAM. Source model text: MDB7749SAM1. Incident: Dishwasher was cleaning and noone was in kitchen. Heard some noise from another rooom but didn't think anything of it. Thought was one of the kids Then kept happening and getting louder and the dog was spooked. Went into kitchen and smoke was pouring out of the closed door of the dishwasher..not from inside the applaince but the door itslef was spewing smoke and extemely hot. We turned off the electricity to the washer but it continued to smoke and house reeks of burnt plastic type smell. It could have burned the house down so we are very lucky. It is now outside while we wait for a new dishwasher to be delivered and take that away. It literally is melted shut so can't open to give you the serial number etc. It was a Maytag we purchased at Lowes...I think about 8 years ago.
