Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200525-D41B3-2147372146. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Microsoft Microsoft Surface Pro 4 m3 (Surface Pro 4 m3 Device name:[REDACTED]). Incident: The battery on my Microsoft Surface Pro 4 has expanded and separated the screen from the body. This problem was reported to Microsoft and a case was opened ([REDACTED]), There is a purple & yellow glow on the bottom right side of the screen. MSFT said that it is out of warranty even though this is a serious safety issue as the battery can explode anytime. They advised me to unplug the tablet when working on it, this is not possible as the battery wouldn't charge. Microsoft offered to replace the Surface Pro for $450 plus taxes which is not acceptable. This is not a warranty issue but an issue of a defective, sub-standard product made in China... Microsoft should be taking action as there are many complaints and understand that approximately 40% of this product has this issue. They must either replace this laptop or fix it without any charges.
