Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200609-DC612-2147371808. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Product: Samsung RF4287HARS (Samsung 28 Cu Ft. French Door Refrigerator in Stainless Steel Model: RF4287HARS). Incident: We have bought the fridge at the end of the 2013, we received it at our new house (we moved to TX for a job) at the end of January 2014, that's when Home Depot was able to deliver it. Within a year or two, the electronic panel went out, we could not tell the set temperatures by pressing on it, it was halfway lit up. What never occurred to us is that the panel is only responsible for setting the temps, not necessarily what is actually inside of the refrigerator. We have had milk spoiling too fast, fruits and vegetables freeze up and then go mush. I thought maybe the grocery store is selling defective groceries so I tried to pick a better firmer product, but it kept going bad. This year, with pandemic and all, we started hearing noises that would stop when you open the refrigerator doors. Turns out the back wall was completely covered in ice. My husband took out the inside panel (i wish i took pictures) and the whole wall was covered in ice. I then went to google to see what was that and I have discovered many other consumers experiencing issues just like I am. I also found a [REDACTED] group that I joined called "[REDACTED]" with [REDACTED] members as of [REDACTED]. Every single one of them is experiencing issues with their Samsung refrigerator, to the point that the moderator started sharing tips on how to ask Samsung to repair/refund for the defective product. Many of them have successfully received repairs/refunds from Samsung. Over $3M have been refunded since June of 2019. So we defrosted our fridge by letting it sit open for a few hours, hoping this would be the end. C
