Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200704-B85C0-2147371300. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung Model # RF28HMEDBSR. Source model text: model RF28HMEDBSR/AA. Incident: This is the short version. I have a longer, very detailed version I would like to send. Samsung Refrigerator June 2016...model RF28HMEDBSR/AA & serial #065L43BH304179H, manufactured 3/2016 for $2022.47. Ice maker freezes up, ice maker stuck, water leaking from spout, mold forms from ice maker through the water spout, fridge not maintaining temp under 40 degrees when set at 34. Samsung agreed to free repair (both labor & parts as there is a 5 yr warranty on sealed system), appointments made and canceled 3 times by Unique Repair, they sent ticket back to Samsung bc too busy. Samsung unable to find another service repair company to take the job. Samsung asking me to find someone to repair (& they will reimburse us) but all reputable repair centers refuse to repair Samsung fridges and advised we not try and repair as there is NO definitive repair. Defective design. Asked Samsung to put that they will reimburse repair in writing and they have not done so. First ticket number [redacted], Samsung canceled it, new ticket number for repair is [redacted]. In summary, there is an engineering design defect in these units that cause these refrigerators to have multiple failures (ice maker & temperature regulation) and this unit should be recalled. The fact that Samsung will not consistently repair or replace them is beyond unacceptable, but what is worse is that they have been aware of this issue for years and continue to sell the units knowing that they will fail just after the warranty e
