Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200804-DD24D-2147370715. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: GE PSS93BP1TS (GE Profile Electric Range with Air Fryer Model PSS93BP1TS). Incident: So I bought this brand new model stove made by GE, mostly for the whole oven air fryer feature. Special ordered it from Lowes, paid $1600.00 for it. It was delivered and installed on 6/13. About three days after I started using it, I noticed a serious design flaw in the touch panel that controls the burners and the entire stove. When cooking, I accidentally dropped a tiny bit of oil on the panel and was terrified to find I then couldnt turn the burner off. Thought it was a fluke until it happened a few days later when I opened the oven door and some of the steam which came out immediately condensed on the control panel, again rendering it unresponsive. Then I really began to investigate and found that no matter what liquidoil, spaghetti sauce, water... same results. Even worse, the liquid can change the burner settings when it hits it. So a pot that is on a low simmer can be turned to high if a small bubble bursts and the liquid lands on the screen. Bottom line....cooking is messy and a touch screen control panel that becomes unresponsive OR reacts incorrectly due to a drop of moisture on the screen is a BAD IDEA! Anyone who has ever tried to answer a phone call on their touch screen Phone with a little bit of water on their hands knows exactly what I am describing. I then called GE customer service on 6/22 and filed a report about a serious safety issue. I was told someone would look into it and get back to me. So as of 7/30, I had yet to receive a call back. I finally called them and was told they would be happy to send a repair man to verify what I was reporting, then
