Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200805-E9844-2147370666. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: GE JVM6175SF1SS (GE over the cooktop, built in microwave with fan Model 2F224616B). Incident: A couple months ago my microwave starting turning on as soon as I would open the door, put something into it and close it. I didn't push any buttons to start it or actually have to put anything in it, I just had to open and close the door. Then I noticed when I would use one of the sensor buttons, like Reheat or Potato, it would beep as if it were done, but keep running. It was over cooking food to the point I would have to throw it out. I believe it was arcing sometimes as well. The turning on automatically was intermittent and I thought it had actually resolved itself, until last week. I put a potato in the microwave, pushed the Potato button and went into the living room. All of a sudden I heard the microwave making weird noises and when I went into the kitchen the potato was totally on fire inside the microwave. I haven't used the microwave since, but it smells like smoke especially when I open it.
