Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200905-7217F-2147370013. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Maytag MDB8959SBS3 (stainless steel Maytag dishwasher model MDB8959SBS3). Incident: Our dishwasher began to spark and smoke Luckily we were awake and close by to cut the power to the washer as we usually let it run overnight. Heavy smoke and heat on the panel. After undoing the door the wiring to the control board was melted to the board. No water found inside the door panel or damage to the door to cause any short. Board and wiring were fused together and melted. This was purchased from Lowes several years back and the model number is MDB8959SBS3. Figured Maytag was a reputable brand and would work flawlessly, but this is a fire hazard and could have burned our house down and my kids bedrooms are over the kitchen! This was a close call and not acceptable to have something as simple as a wiring harness cause an electrical fire.
