Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200923-B5B5A-2147369638. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Frigidaire PLES399ECD (Frigidaire stove Model PLES399ECD heating element overheating problems with stove off). Incident: Frigidaire stove heating element overheating problems with stove off, When we bought our house I purchased all new Frigidaire appliances. The stove started turning itself on and off by itself. One burner gets red hot. There are hundreds of complaints that these stoves do this. Frigidaire just sells you expensive Chinese crap replacement boards. The Frigidaire dryer was also junk with main board failures and expensive replacement parts. There is some very bad engineering on their stoves. Something that can reach 1,000 degrees on the stove top (flat glass ((ceramic?)) top needs to have switches that are at the beginning or the end of a circuit so when you switch the burner to "off" the electricity is shut off to the entire control board for that element. In this case shutting the element to off only suggests to the board that it should turn off the element. This is a bad design. If one of the IC chips has issues it is capable of turning the elements off and on even if the main control is set to off. Bad manufacturing and engineering somewhere to cut costs. I worked in the electronics field all my adult life with a degree in electronics. There is no reason a stove engineered like this should be on the American market. The pan of water was just placed there for a short time. I turned the dial to high in the middle of this video to show that the switch was still functional. I did not want to have the dammed thing heat up so hot that it might break the top glass or melt something inside the stove. see video [REDACTED]
