Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200926-F1D44-2147369562. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Apple inc. MacBook Pro 13-inch 2020, A2251 (MacBook Pro 13-inch 2020, Model No: A2251, Serial Number C02D8SRJML7H, Part Number: MWP42LL/A, Space Gray/2.0Ghz QC/16GB/512GB). Incident: Received brand new MacBook Pro 13" 2020 computer this week. Noticed uncomfortable buzzing/tingling when touching it while plugged in to wall power. Power supply (brick) provided only comes with 2 prong plug. I was using the product in my home on tile floor while barefoot. The home was build to National standards in 2006 (so wall sockets should be fully grounded). I note that when I lift my feet off the floor, tingling stops. When computer is unplugged from power and running on battery, tingling stops. When I use an old thick 3-prong power adapter cable that came with 2012 MacBook Pro (connected to the new power block), tingling stops. Apple does not provide a 3-prong cable like this with the new computer. When I contacted Apple, they said "it was to be expected" ... and some people were just sensitive to it. I expect ALL people are sensitive to it if barefoot on tile floor. This sensation is being shocked as the ground goes through the body to the floor. I expect this would not be uncovered in a corporate manufacturing environment, because all would be wearing shoes which would block being grounded through the floor.
