Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20200928-D0044-2019352. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Apple MacBook Pro Retina, 15 inch, mid-2015 (MacBook Pro, Retina, 15 inch, mid-2015). Incident: The case of my 15 inch Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display mid-2015 suddenly became warped and it is due to the internal battery that apparently failed and became swollen. My MacBook Pro, Serial Number C02SR0DAG8WL, purchased in 2016, was not covered under the battery recall program for this model, and my Apple Care is expired. When I contacted Apple, I was told to not use the computer or charge the battery and I was quoted costs to send it in and have it repaired. It seems incredible to me that a company like Apple doesn't assume any responsibility for a defective lithium-ion battery which is an extreme safety hazard. I would like to see Apple defray the cost of repairing my MacBook Pro since it is a safety hazard due to a known defect and not just a repair. Apple Case Number is [REDACTED]
