Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20201014-5727E-2147369228. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: LG LTE4815 (LG Model LTE4815 Double Oven Range with Convection Model MEZ57156606). Incident: DANGER!!! FIRE HAZARD. I bought a LG Range / Microwave combination from Costco in late September 2020 (last month). The microwave LMHM2237 is fine. The LG Model LTE4815 Double Oven Range is a fire hazard. It is fairly easy to inadvertently bump the stove top "burner" knobs that activate the stovetop burners and unknowingly heat up anything sitting on top. That happened to me twice about 2 weeks apart. Both happened in the past 3 weeks. The first incident, I sat a piece of plywood on top the COLD range to protect it while I removed the old microwave above it. I carried the old microwave to the garage and was gone for less than 5 minutes. Fortunately a friend was visiting, observed smoke coming from the stovetop and make a short video of the smoking wood before turning off the burner. I dismissed that one as a "one of" and blamed myself. Then, it happened a second time when I sat a plastic bin used to haul groceries from car to kitchen on the COLD stove top. I unknowingly bumped the far left burner knob and fortunately was present moving items from the bin into the refrigerator when I saw the glow of the burner coming through the bottom of the bin and resulting boiling plastic and smoke. It was a mess to clean off the stovetop but only because I was present there was no flames. The range would be excellent except it may burn your house down or injure your kids or you. Consumer Product Safety Commission and/or LG should recall the range and [REDACTED], and others should stop selling it until this significant safety hazard is fixed.
