Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20201028-2E527-2147368987. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Roku RC-AL2 (Roku brand remote control for Roku streaming TV devices. Model: RC-AL2. FCC ID: TC2-RCB14. SKU: 3226000284.). Incident: This is regarding Roku brand remote control Model RC-AL2. Upon grabbing the remote after having last used it about 20 minutes earlier, I found it to be extremely hot, untouchable around the battery case without burning myself, and emitting a strong odor of burning plastics/electronics. The surface of my couch on which the remote had been laying was also very hot. I managed to get the battery case open and shake out the batteries, and found the outer casings of the batteries crinkled from the extreme heat. A dimple on the front of the remote, immediately in front of the battery compartment, had also started to form due to the plastic beginning to melt. Not only could I have been burned by the remote, but I believe it could have set my couch on fire if I had not discovered the issue as soon as I did.
