Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20201207-5B8F4-2147367639. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Behmor, Inc. Behmor Brazen Plus Model GRT1001CM (Product is the Behmor 5393 Brazen Plus Temperature Control Coffee Maker purchased in April 2018. Model number is GRT1001CM Model GRT1001CM). Incident: The reservoir of the Behmor 5393 Brazen Plus Coffee Maker has a heated element that heats the water prior to brewing coffee. I found the coffee maker with the power switch OFF but with the coffee maker producing heat. Upon further investigation, I found that the heating element was activated despite there being no water in the unit and the unit being OFF. The element produces water temperatures of >200 presenting the possibility for an accidental burn. The customer service representative I spoke to was dismissive of the issue and refused to repair or replace the item, instead claiming: "The system heaters are fully encapsulated- any over heating event will kick an error and impossible for any sort of fire" -- Clearly there was no "error kicked" in this instance despite the coffee maker being turned off.
