Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20201207-D4CF2-2147367619. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Kiddie H110G (Kiddie ABC Fire Extinguisher, 1.5 - 1.7 kgs. Model H110G). Incident: We had what started as a minor grease fire on our kitchen stove on 11/30/2020. We attempted to extinguish the fire using a cover for the pan but the cover was not big enough. My wife then attempted to use the Kiddie ABC fire extinguisher nearby but upon pulling the pin and squeezing the trigger, nothing happened. I attempted as well, to no avail. My wife was evacuating our two daughters and dog from the house and I was starting to dial 911 when I remembered I had another extinguisher in my shop area. I grabbed it, returned within 30 seconds, and successfully put out the fire that had quickly grown to close to ceiling height. Unfortunately, the time lost time allowed the fire to burn far longer than it would have, had my extinguisher worked properly. As a direct result of the failure, my stove's control partially melted and the smoke damage to my ceiling is going to require the mineral fiber tiles it to be replaced. (The textured tiles we have are not expensive, but are not well suited to painting either.) After this near catastrophe, I looked into why the extinguisher failed and found that the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) had issued a recall due to failure to discharge and nozzle detachment. I contracted Kiddie and they did promptly replace the device itself, but I am still left with what I would estimate to be $1,200 in property damage. Although I know this safety concern is known to the CPSC, I felt it important to report he property damage associated with this issue. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, or if any additional information is
