Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20201228-D8F44-2147367133. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Product: General Electric Applicances JBS160DM3WW (General Electric electric stove. 30 inch, 5.0 cu. ft. White). Incident: Purchased a GE electric stove from Home Depot 11.04.2020. After delivery I used the oven for 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Heat poured out of the oven door. All parts of the stove: top surface including burners, oven door and sides of stove were untouchable. I did burn my right wrist and hand when I removed the casserole and accidently touched the top surface. I unplugged the product and have not used it since. GE says this is "normal" and the manual states not to touch the top when using the oven. I called Home Depot and they said I had "buyers remorse" and they couldn't help me. GE has sent the same repairman twice. The 2nd time he removed the inside of the oven door and installed insulation (there is no insulation in the stove anywhere). He put the door back on and it now hangs crooked. He heated the oven to 350 degrees. The top remains burning hot. He placed a meter on the surface to measure the temperature. It shows 153 degrees. Once again, he says GE says this is normal and not to touch the stove when the oven is in use. The entire house heats up because of the heat coming from the oven door. Air conditioner runs constantly when stove was turned on. The stove is a safety hazard. Anyone with small children or elderly can suffer burns much worse than what I did on my 1st use. I am 69 years old and know not to touch hot objects but could accidently get burned again or cause a fire if anything is set on the stove.
