Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210111-D2886-2965992. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Summit Appliance CR430SS (Electric cooktop). Incident: The consumer use the range for a few minutes to boil water. She moved the pot of water from one burner to another. The consumer brushed portions of the knobs with the hot pot and the plastic knobs melted. The consumer is also extremely concerned about the proximity of the knobs to the burners. NOTE: The consumer [REDACTED], filed the report on behalf of his mother. He submitted the information below by email to the CPSC Information Center. There are ZERO references to these knobs being constructed of cheap plastic and/or warnings of the inherent dangers of imminent melting and/or potentially fatal fire hazards as a direct result of the mind-numbingly stupid/poor design which places these cheap, plastic knobs within mere inches of hot electric coils, pots, pans, etc. Not only are these effectively useless knobs endangering the lives of any/all innocent + unwitting users / potential victims but these knobs also provide next to no clear/obvious LOW/MEDIUM/HIGH settings further placing any/all innocent + unwitting users / potential victims in harms way. NOTE: While the photo above highlights the MED setting on the knobs its ONLY because the flash feature in my elderly Moms cell phone illuminated these settings. Otherwise the settings are next to impossible to see with the naked eye (prior to the melting of the cheap, plastic knobs - I actually looked for the settings and couldnt find them). PLEASE IMMEDIATELY SHIP* METAL REPLACEMENT KNOBS WITH CLEARLY MARKED HIGH + MEDIUM + LOW SETTINGS - TO MY ELDERLY MOM: [REDACTED] *VIA FREE EXPEDITED SHIPPING + CONFIRM SU
