Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210119-875FF-2147366422. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Product: E.G.O. 83.22000.008 or RI 120E-4 (The product is heavily described in the earlier step - it is the E.G.O. 83.22000.008 - here is a link to one of the many vendors selling it - https://www.amazon.com/PA020041-Viking-Appliance-Tytronics-Module/dp/B00TFOXMZ2). Incident: The product I am reporting is the E.G.O. Gas Reigniter, Part Number 83.22000.008 - commonly sold as part number PA020041 for a Viking stove. This product was originally manufactured by Tytronics and is often still referred to as the Tytronics 0+4 spark module, but I Tytronics was sold to EGO back in 2012. This product is the module which produces the spark necessary to ignite a flame for a gas stove, in my case it is the listed replacement part for my Viking 6-burner stove. My original module died in mid 2020 - the stove is from 1995 so I attribute this to regular end-of-life for the part. A replacement was ordered from an online appliance retailer and installed following all instruction, direction, and standard practice. The module does not perform like the original. It sparks multiple times to ignite (the original one gave one spark, MAYBE two, to ignite). It sparks continuously at lower flame settings (the original one was stable at all flame ranges). And worst of all - if the electrode is grounded to the burner, even with the gas off, the module sparks - I found this out while wiping the stove down with a wet rag, which was enough to give me an unpleasant shock (this NEVER happened with the older module). I contacted the part website, they sent me a replacement, I installed it - same issue. They sent me a 2nd replacement - same issue. I contacted Viking, they suggested I swap the original igniter that is still on the 2 burner side, over to the 4 burner side. I checked each and every wire, ensured good ground to the module, ensured each gas control knob was prop
