Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210127-AB9FA-2147366256. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart TOB-40. Source model text: TOB-40N. Incident: We have a Cuisinart toaster oven that malfunctioned to the point of being dangerous. The lower front heating element had begun to warp/bend over the past month, but it still worked. This morning while making toast, I noticed that the left side of the element was white hot like a flame. It looked like it was swelling at the connection point. I yanked the plug from the wall to avoid a fire. I have no doubt that the appliance would have caught on fire if it had been left to toast as usual. An adult was using the product to make toast when this occurred. The appliance was located on the kitchen counter with no other items around it.
