Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210208-3022B-2147365993. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: DeLonghi EW7707CM Safeheat 1500W ComforTemp Portable Oil-Filled. Source model text: EW7707CB. Incident: I own a DeLonghi EW7707CB oil-filled heater. It caught fire because the cord frayed or melted enough to cause the hot and neutral wires to short. The heater presents a safety hazard, and my family is fortunate enough to have witnessed the short instead of it happening when everyone was asleep. The cord does not have a reinforced cord protecter where it attaches to the unit, and it enters through the bottom of the unit, concealing any cord damage. If the cord entered through the front, it would also be further away from the heating element. Please see attached photos of damaged cord.
