Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210223-7A7E3-2147365699. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: Levoit LV600HH (Levolt Humidifier Model LV600HH Humidifier, 1.5G 280W Hybrid Ultrasonic Humidifier; 7.625"W, 10.75-"H, 11.5-"D; molded NEMA 1-15P on a 5' cord. The power cord has the only UL cert E233157. Device has not been inspected by any independent lab, UL, ETL, or otherwise and they make no CE claim.). Incident: Levoit LV600HH Hybrid Ultrasonic Humidifiers used in the residential setting. They have had blower issues, failures, due to crap parts. MFG sent me a couple of replacement units out. The replacement have developed leaks -through- the heating element (within two seasons of use) and into the interior of the unit (where all the electricity is). Fortunately they turned themselves off, no fire, no smoke, no injury, but also, nothing keeping the water away from the power cord other than the inherent leakiness of that part of the device to let the water spill out. Risk of electric shock, fire. Failure discovered prior to incident and units taken out of service. There does appear to have been a thermal event in one unit given the discoloration and mild deformation of the water tank - showed signs of excessive heat.
