Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210405-B0599-2147364980. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Whirlpool WRFF3736SZ French door refrigerator. Source model text: WRS588FIHB00. Incident: I own a Whirlpool Refrigerator/Freezer with ice and water in the door. The dispenser motor had stopped working several months ago. After replacing the motor and the control board, it still didn't work. Then suddenly I saw sparks ark out of the bottom of the door. I thought it was from the motor since it looked like ice had jammed the agitator. After that arc, the ice maker stopped producing ice completely. I did some more troubleshooting today after reading some hints on the web and one said to check the wiring loom that comes out of the bottom of the door. Sure enough, due to a terrible design flaw, the entire wiring harness had been severed. That explains the arcing and sparks coming out of the bottom of the door. This item should be recalled due to safety issues as it prevents serious danger to consumers.
