Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210410-B6A50-2147364867. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: LG LDE4413ST. Incident: We bought a home last month that was built in 2015. All appliances are from LG. The LG range stove top knobs (Model No. LDE4413ST, Serial No. 511KMEM01140) are easily bumped and activated into full (HI) operation by bumping the knob "Clockwise". 30 minutes ago I put a reusable plastic grocery tote bag onto the largest electric burner and accidentally "bumped" the knob responsible for that burner. In no time, the bag melted generating an incredible amount of smoke which, thankfully, caught my attention. The knobs on this LG stove should be much, much harder to turn in either direction (Right - HI, Left - LOW). I feel this is an accident ready to happen and I'm concerned that an adult (or child) could be easily burned, or worse, the house may be at risk of "going up in flames". Too scary that this happened so quickly and thank goodness, I was there to return the knob to the "Off" position, extinguish the "smelting" plastic bag and ventilate our home.
