Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210422-5B556-2147364574. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Chefman RJ14-UB (Chefman InstaCoffee Single Serve Coffee Maker Compatible with K-Cup Pods, Grounds & Loose-Leaf Tea w/Reusable Filter Model RJ14-UB). Incident: I had just filled my Chefman single serve coffee maker with water. I had already filled the reusable k cup filter cup and placed in coffee machine. Several minutes later I was on the computer and pushed the brew button. The brewer top had been firmly snapped in place. The red light came on and the machine started to brew. About 10-15 seconds after the brewer started a loud pop like a firecracker occurred and the top lid came flying open and steam shot out. I was about 2 feet away from the machine and it scared me badly. My co-worker came running around the partition and said, "what the hell was that"? I restarted the machine and it brewed the coffee but first made clear water for a second. I am worried that if this occurs that someone could be badly burned. I wanted to commit this report in case a recall needs to occur and to document this scary experience.
