Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210425-D276D-2147364519. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 790.3690.3900. Source model text: Sears Kenmore Dishwasher model 587.15233900A. Incident: Our Kenmore dishwasher developed a leak causing water damage to cabinets, and the leak was dripping on the electrical junction box. The leak seemed to be coming from a place on the underside of the dishwasher where there should not be a source of water. I examined the inside of the washer tub and saw that the heating element rod had deformed and drooped down to rest on the plastic tub. The heating rod melted the plastic tub creating a hole and the water could escape. This is a serious defect for at least 3 reasons. One-the tub could have caught fire. Two - the water damage from the leak. Three - a possible electrical short causing electrocution or a fire.
