Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210601-3C3F9-2147363784. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: LG LDE4413ST (LG Electric Range Model #LDE4413ST, dual oven, 5 burner stove, stainless UPC 048231319508). Incident: Our new LG electric range is entirely too easy to turn the burner on. We've had 2 fires on the stove top when the stove was not being used. The first time was about a month ago and a pizza box that was placed on the stove ignited. There was nothing cooking on the stovetop. We got our pizza and went to the living room and smoke filtering in alerted us to the fire. I thought it was a fluke accident. The second time, my son was heating chili in the microwave above the stove. He set the microwave cover on the stove stove to get his chili out and went to the living room. Again, smoke filtering in to the living room alerted us to a fire (melting). Both times, the knob was on high when we looked at the stove. After that happened, I knew it wasn't a fluke, but a real safety hazard. Thinking back, there were times I was cooking and I noticed the warming burner was on and I had not turned it on. The knobs have been "turned on" by everyone in the family so it's not just a coincidence that someone is just the right height or moves past the knobs just the right way. The range was not being used in any way during the 2 fires. Luckily there were no injuries and we were in the next room when the smoke billowed in.
