Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210714-55A82-2147362871. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Product: ismartgate ISG-02WNA102 (ismartgate pro smart garage door opener Model ISG-02WNA102). Incident: I recently purchased an ismartgate pro and two additional sensors for my garage door. When installing the batteries in the sensors, I noticed they immediately started to get warm.Upon closer inspection I realized what was happening but it too me too long and when I tried to get the batteries out they were so hot I got a really bad burn from them. The batteries are installed into the wireless sensor via two sets of clips. These clips are one complete metal part to their positive or negative terminal counterparts. When installing the battery, it is very likely that the metal will score the battery enough so that the positive and negative ends of the battery short itself out. This will very, very quickly result in the battery getting critically hot-- hot enough to burn you or start a fire. If you catch this, you have mere seconds to get the batteries out of the device before things get out of hand. This is an absolutely terrible and unsafe design. The leads should be completely isolated from the battery clips. This is sheer engineering laziness and cost-savings measures and someone is going to get hurt or killed because of this. I emailed the support people at ismartgate and my email was ignored for a week. Clearly they do not care about this.
