Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210827-109FB-2147360846. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: GE APCD08JASWG1 (GE Portable Room Air Conditioner - Model Number APCD08JASWG1 - white). Incident: Purchased a GE portable air conditioner model number APCD08JASWG1 on 08/22/2021. On 08/27/2021, my homes carbon monoxide detector went off with readings that exceeded 100 ppm. I then called the fire department - their meter read 240 ppm (I have fire department documentation to support this). They then ventilated the house in order to reduce the carbon monoxide levels and they along with a representative from the local gas distribution company stated that negative air pressure from the aforementioned portable air conditioning unit created negative pressure in my home that caused the extremely high ratings. This model is a single hose unit that was installed properly. My recommendation is that this product be removed from the market before someone dies as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.
