Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20211018-6CA00-2147359137. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Whirlpool Model #wrf767sdhz 26.8 cu ft 3 door French door re. Source model text: [REDACTED]. Incident: Our Whirlpool 1.9-cu.-ft.-smart-over-the-range-microwave-with-scan-to-cook-technology (wmh78019hz) experienced a computer board/sensor failure while in use. It failed to turn on its automatic vent hood while water was being boiled below it on a gas range. This caused heat damage to the unit itself, which we noticed when we opened the door to the microwave oven and chunks of plastic dropped into pots below. The door is broken and warped. We unplugged the unit and contacted Whirlpool. They have other microwaves on RECALL for what sounds like a similar failure/fire hazard but stated this microwave was not yet reported for such issues.
