Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20211101-EC49D-2147358989. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Profile Dual Fuel Range P2B940SEJ8SS (GE Profile Dual Fuel Range / Model Number P2B940SEJSS / 30 inch / Stainless Steel / Serial Number AS189548P. Made in Mexico.). Incident: March 2021 homeowners purchased a GE Profile Dual-Fuel Range Model P2B940SEJSS. Although multiple issues with range since purchase, 2 issues prompted this reporting. (1) flames approximately 8"(+) high from burner. Since the Service Rep came over, the burner delivers gas and does not ignite normally, but if left on long enough, erupts in what looks like a ball of fire. We (family members) no longer turn this burner on or try to use use it because of risk of fire starting and/or person getting burned). The underside of burner is blackened which shows the flame pattern (and may indicate intensity of the fire). (2) the oven racks are coated with a substance that comes off as a powder residue when rack is slid. Risk is the powder residue being ingested by getting into the food. We do not slide the rack and cover food to avoid food contamination. Rack issue has been known since March 2021. The burner issue that poses risk of fire first happened in September (and did not get resolved). We have been trying to get the GE Range returned as a defective item and get a refund for many months. Since there have been multiple issues since purchase, chose to enter the month of the most recent incident (burner issue) in #2 below. The day is the estimate. Report updated 1/27/22: As of today January 27, 2022, we have specifics about the causes of the still unresolved issue. These are items I thought may be more helpful and of interest to CPSC - especially in that the latest indicator is the GE Range we purchased was built with an incorrect part (i.e., are any more out there like ours?).
