Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20211112-62403-2147358814. Matched catalog product: Lenovo 510-15IKB Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80SV. Source model text: IdeaPad S340-15IWL. Incident: I am manager of a popular computer repair shop. Over the last few months, we have seen four Lenovo IdeaPad S340-15IWL laptops enter the shop with the same set of problems: all screws inside the laptop are not properly torqued down, and one or more screws from the 2.5" hard disk caddy inside the unit will eventually work their way loose, bounce around inside the chassis, and eventually short something out. In two cases, it simply shut the computer off and it came back to life after the screw was removed. In two other cases, it shorted something significant enough that the computer never worked again. Our concern is that the screw(s) could easily short the battery lines, potentially causing a fire or explosion. It appears consistent that this line of laptop suffers from manufacturing deficiencies with screws (internal and external) not being properly tightened, so this problem is likely to continue occuring for other people.
