Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20211122-A41EC-2147358688. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: LG LUTG 4519 SN 100 (LG slid In Range). Incident: We recently had a disturbing incident with an LG range that we purchased from Lowes. In brief, during an oven cleaning the range over heated and nearly started a fire. Attached is a time line and copies of text messages between [REDACTED] and LG. Aside from the fact that it took such a long time to get satisfaction we had a greater concern regarding the reason for the overheating that was never addressed. Several times we brought up the issue of product safety and asked if LG was looking into a possible design flaw. Have other purchasers of this model experienced similar problems? Would purchasers be notified of the problem and warned not to use the oven cleaning setting? Although we were told that the issue would be referred to LGs Product Liability Department we never had any follow up. Most curious was the fact that no one at LG seemed interested to get our stove back so that it could be examined. We keep thinking that if the stove hadnt shorted out (see time line) would our house still be standing and doesnt LG have some responsibility to ensure that their products are safe? Needless to say, even though the self-cleaning oven feature is touted as a selling point it is a feature that we will never use again.
