Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20211123-66D56-2147358672. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Homedics Uhe-wmtf185 (Homedics Total Comfort Deluxe ultrasonic humidifier UPC 3126209845 Model Uhe-wmtf185). Incident: My new Homedics Total Comfort Deluxe ultrasonic humidifier started on fire after plugging it in for only the second time. I plugged it in and set the humidity level and went to leave the room. As I turned around to shut the door, smoke started pouring out from underneath the humidifier. In the few seconds it took me to reach the humidifier and unplug it, my entire upstairs was filled with smoke. If I would have just walked out of the room my house likely would have caught on fire. I brought the humidifier downstairs- it was extremely hot to the touch- and put it in the sink to spray water on it in case flames broke out. After letting it sit and cool down, I decided to try and get a video of the humidifier melting down. I plugged it in where I knew it would be safe and started recording. I did get a video of smoke pouring out of it. I have now contacted Homedics multiple times and let them know what happened and they will not get back to me. They sent me a link to review my new humidifier- except when I tried two times to warn people and say that mine had started on fire they sent me two emails saying they could not use my review and would not post it. Homedics seems to be avoiding me and I can't get anyone there to help me and it also seems they are trying to hide this info from the public. As I stated, I do have a video of smoke pouring out of the humidifier but when I try to upload it, it says the file is too large even though it is only 8 seconds long. I will save the video in case there is another way to send it to you.
