SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20211202-6AEF0-3512084. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Kawasaki Teryx (Sport UTV). Incident: At our private property in Confluence Pennsylvania, our 2011 Kawasaki Teryx began smoldering and then combusted. Despite using four fire extinguishers on the vehicle, the fire was uncontrollable, and the responding fire team from the local department was only able to control damage to the surrounding property as the vehicle itself finally burnt its way through the remaining fuel sources. Through luck alone, we were able to escape further catastrophe to any individuals or structures. This vehicle, never modified from its Stock configuration, was purchased in 2019 from Logan Motor Sports in Logan WV, was always maintained at the appropriate service intervals. As a lifelong motorsports enthusiast, I find it unbelievable that this vehicle failed in such a catastrophic way. In the days since the incident, I have reviewed some data and found that my case is not a limited one, but in fact what appears to be one of many situations where owners of Kawasaki Teryx�s have had their vehicles combust resulting in serious injury to either themselves, their families, or property. It also appears that this is a known issue with various years of Kawasaki SxS vehicles, with recalls in 2017 and 2021. I notified Kawasaki in writing and had a correspondence with their agents through email. Their official response (December 2, 2021) was that �After careful consideration, given the age and unknown history of the vehicle, there isn't enough information available to determine the source of the combustion.�, closing the issue from their end.
