Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220109-C93A0-2147358085. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Mr. Coffee Model#: 31160391 (also) BVMC-RF100-CP (Mr. Coffee Easy Measure 12 Cup Programmable Coffee Maker - Black). Incident: Today, my 28 month-old Mr. Coffee Easy Measure 12 Cup Coffee Maker spontaneously flickered on and off, so I pressed the power button, it flickered again, I turned it off, it flickered, and so on. Meanwhile, the little water remaining in the reservoir from the morning's brew sputtered as it heated, and the warming element and rest of the unit got hotter and hotter, so I unplugged it. I plugged it in again, and the LED displayed "EC5". I unplugged and plugged it in again, and the flickering cycle repeated. Today's experience is a repeat of what happened a couple weeks ago, after which I unplugged it and let it sit unused until 3 days ago, and it worked fine, until today. I [REDACTED] "Mr. Coffee error code" and discovered what appear to be dozens of comments on mrcoffee.com describing similar experiences for this model, in response to each of which is offered a gratuitous reply and no solution. I think this coffee maker is a potential fire hazard, and it doesn't look like Sunbeam Products is going to do anything about it.
