Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220114-30F7C-2147358006. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Samsung WA45T3400AP (Samsung Top-Load Washer). Incident: I purchased a new Samsung washer model WA45T3400AP from Home Depot that emits a burning smell when under load. There are many complaints on-line regarding failed clutch mechanism's in this model and similar Samsung models. Many have reported a burning smell that led to friction fires and total failure of their Samsung washer clutch mechanism. I have been in contact with both Samsung and Home Depot regarding this issue and neither company will address the product defect and the pending fire hazard my washer presents. I had an authorized Samsung technician come out to evaluate the washer and he acknowledged this has been an on going problem with this model and similar Samsung washers for a long time. The technician stated that Samsung is aware of the problem and has been negligently avoiding their responsibility regarding this known defect and the fire hazard their washers present. He recommended that I stop using the washer and get a new one that is not a Samsung. Another issue with the washer is a lot of condensation forms on the control panel and runs down the front of washer.
