Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220218-13A2E-2147357524. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Samsung UN43NU7100FXZA (Samsung 43 inch TV (2018 model) Model Code: UN43NU7100FXZA Version No: DA01 / UNU7100 Manufacture date: November 2018 Serial number: 07CN3CPKB02524J Purchased from Amazon on November 23rd, 2018 Software version: T-KTM2LAKUC-1320.4). Incident: Samsung TV was in use when backlight suddenly stopped working on left side of screen. While on phone with Samsung support with TV on, bottom right of screen became visibily warped with white bubbles. I tried touching the warped area to see if it was something peeling off, but it was extremely hot so I could not keep my finger on the screen at all. The whole right side had become hot, but the bottom right was too hot to touch. No permanent injury, but could have been seriously burned if I kept my finger on there for more than a couple of seconds. Per instructions from Samsung support representative (and instinct), I unplugged the TV within 15 seconds of getting burned. _ I was ending the support call with the Samsung representative when I noticed the warping, and at no point did the representative suggest the backlight failure might be due to a larger issue that would result in a burning or fire hazard. I don't remember if the representative told me to touch the area or if I did so on my own volition, but in any case I was never warned about the possibility of burning or fire while troubleshooting the issue. _ This TV was purchased a little over 3 years ago, so failure like this was unexpected. It was in a good temperature and humidity environment (in living room, away from open windows or direct sunlight, with plenty of space for heat dissipation, frequently dusted off TV stand), and never moved off the TV stand since purchase in November 2018. _ I have a bad photo of the backlight failure, but no photo of the burning screen since I was on the phone with Samsung support whe
