Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220422-1A1D2-2147356619. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Product: DeMarini The GOODS (DeMarini "THE GOODS" two piece baseball bat.). Incident: The product being reported is a Baseball bat made by DeMarini. The model is the two piece "THE GOODS" bat. The bat was received on April 15, 2022. On April 16, 2022 the bat was used for the first time. After 15 to 20 hits the plastic connector piece that secures the handle to the barrel of the bat slipped causing the bat to collapse. This is known as a telescoping barrel making the bat useless. My son (age 15) was using the bat as I watched. When the barrel collapsed it sent severe shock into both hands. Although we have not been to the hospital, we are scheduling an appointment with an orthopedic sports doctor. He is a pitcher and damage to his hands could ruin his scholarship chances. At the time of the collapse the bat was being used in its intended manner. His coach was pitching to him and he was simply taking batting practice. The injury we believe is due to the shock of the ball and the chain reaction to his hands. He experienced some swelling at the time and continues to have pain in his hands. PLEASE NOTE the company is aware of this problem. Their own website now shows twenty 5 star ratings and twenty six 1 star ratings. Of the twenty six 1 star ratings twenty four are citing the same collapse. I have taken screen shots of the site in case they decide to remove the negative reviews. Their site is [REDACTED] In addition, numerous same reports are coming up on other review sites at third party vendors. The bat is a new release. These cautions and reviews were not available at the time I placed the order March 8, 2022.
