Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220512-25F58-2147356221. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Badger Badger 5-89A (Badger 5 dispoal). Incident: On the 8th of May 2022: The Badger5 disposal that was installed under my kitchen sink, suddenly turned on all by itself--no one turned it on. When i opened the doors under the sink, there was a noticeably burned wire smell. I unplugged the disposal and a few minuteds later, I tried to plug it back in--sparks flew out of the box and smoke was coming out of the holes in the outlet. I unplugged it again and threw the cord to the plug in accross under the sink. I have an electrician here from "Well-Connected" and he has told me that the disposal is burned out, and the plug in/switch outlet is competely burned out with a hole the size of a silver dollar in the side of it. If this had happened during the night with no one in the kitchen, it could have caused a fire and my house could have burned down.
