Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220525-7BE7E-2147356003. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Product: General Electric Model # JGBS10DEMBB (GE 30 in. 4.8 cu. ft. Gas Oven in Black Model # JGBS10DEMBB Store SKU # 1003563695). Incident: I purchased a General Electric gas range model #JGBS10DEM3BB on 3/27/2021, which was delivered on 8/42/2021. The first time I used the broiler in November it caught the food on fire. I had to actually reach into the flame to pull the food out so I could put out the flame. This broiler has a wire rack and did not come with a broiler pan or drip tray, so I used my own. The front of the stove of coourse sustained some burn damage, as the fire had to be pulled out of the broiler to be put out. A replacement stove same model was given, and the food in the oven caught on fire on it's first use, and filled the house with a very dark smoke. I contacted GE on numerous occasions, and am still working to get it replaced with a different model. Injuries were smoke inhalation and having my local fire department come to fumigate the house of the smoke and smell. A middle aged person was using the stove through both instances to cook steaks in the broiler, and chicken in the oven.
