Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220610-4930C-2147355686. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Char-Broil 12601558. Source model text: Model 12601558. Incident: I recently took possession of a Char Broil Patio Bistro LP gas grill which was subject to recall in 2013 for possible burn hazard due to explosive ignition of gas. At that time, the company offered a replacement ignition-module repair kit, however the recall was not noticed and the repair was never made. My wife and I have experienced explosive ignition of gas from this grill on more than one occasion; fortunately no injuries have yet occurred. In trying to obtain the repair kit now, I have found that the manufacturer does not provide or sell it, and in fact continues to sell what appears to be the original defective/hazardous ignition module, as do other independent parts suppliers. I believe this constitutes a continued product hazard for consumers who are left with no other choice than to discard the grills, at a personal monetary loss, or risk injury as a result of the defective, now unrepairable, product.
