Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220614-DAAA3-2147355612. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Kitchenaid KUDCXWH0 (Kitchenaid dishwasher, white, stainless interior). Incident: I purchased a kitchenaid dishwasher 3-13-2013, Mod:KUDC101XWH0, SER:F04610508, had issues with the product initially and believe the "motherboard" had to be replaced. I was unaware of the history of fires with dishwashers until last night 6-14-2022. After the load had been washing for quite some time (an hour?) I heard a loud grinding noise and when I checked black smoke was coming out of the front control panel I turned off the breaker and it stopped. The smoke and odor were terrible but am very fortunate that I was able to witness and react quickly to prevent more serious damage. I did not include the description of risk of harm because I thought a fire was self explanatory. My entire house could have burnt down with the 3 of us inside and we could have died or at a minimum some type of lung damage from the smoke and toxic fumes.
