Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220615-06227-3774073. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: LG LDT7808SS (Under the counter dishwasher). Incident: 6/14/2022: The dishwasher began to emit smoke and a burning odor, while it was in use. It had been in operation for approximately 1 hour. The consumers husband opened the door and hit the power button to stop it. None of the dishes were damaged, but there was a burning, hot, electrical odor and smoke emitted from the right side of the unit. 6/15/2022: The consumer called the firms corporate office today, but could not get a live person. She left a voice message. She also called the firms customer service number, but was not able to speak with a live representative. The consumer checked the Internet and saw numerous reports on-line, related to this firms dishwasher and some of the sites, indicated that peoples homes had burned down. Based on this information, the consumer does not want the product in her home and intends to have it replaced. Lastly, she found that there was a dishwasher class action suit with this manufacturers model, and she is considering joining that suit. The class action lawsuit pertains to control panel shutting off. Our dishwasher incident is not within guidelines of that class action lawsuit. Report Update: 6/28/22 Have left msg for Kevins Appliance Repair [REDACTED] to schedule appointment for technician to come inspect our dishwasher to see why it was smoking w/ hot electrical smell.
