Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20221108-F37CA-2147352857. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Matched catalog product: Fitbit Charge 5. Incident: Today, I was burned by my smart watch! Since 2017, I have been wearing a fitbit watch. I purchased my newest model this July 2022. I typically wear my fitbit all the time- it is a watch, and it is useful and also quite stylish. Today I noticed all of a sudden that my wrist began to hurt. Upon further inspection, I noticeed that there was a large red mark under the fitbit sensor on my skin. To me, it seemed like my skin had burned. After an hour, the burned area is still bright red and painful. The burn is even in the shape of the sensor, so I have no doubt that it came from the sensor itself. This is not a rash or skin irritation, but a burn on my skin. After years of wearing a fitbit, this has never happened to me before.
