Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20221127-FB8A2-2147352369. Matched catalog product: Sharp SMD2470AS. Source model text: SMD2470ASY. Incident: Turned on microwave for 30 seconds to melt chocolate chips in a microwave safe glass bowl. Within a few seconds it made a lot of noise - buzzing, grinding, arcing. After 14 seconds I opened the door and it was smoking. It smelled like burnt wire/electrical insulation. I unplugged it and haven't used it since.
