Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20221230-04744-2147351759. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Cyberpower CP1500AVRLCDa ([REDACTED] It's a Cyberpower CP1500AVRLCD UPS. The URL above is the product. This is the product datasheet from Cyberpower: [REDACTED]). Incident: A Cyberpower CP1500AVRLCD Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) began to spark/arc then caught fire. The UPS was supplying power to a desktop PC (i.e. mains power was on, it was not supplying power via the battery) . My wife was at home when the fire occurred. She unplugged the UPS and carried it outside. Injuries were avoided. Obviously a UPS catching fire presents a serious risk to life and property. Searching online suggests this is a known issue based on the "glue" used to secure components: [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] The UPS carries a 3 year warranty but that's of little use when the product comes with a known risk of catching fire. This UPS caught fire on day 494. Several online reports of fires in a Cyberpower UPS have dates ranging from recently to over a year ago. If the yellow glue in these units is faulty I'd expect to hear about a recall or replacement/refund program.
