Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20230208-2E122-2147350845. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Frigidaire LFEF3054TFG (Smooth Surface 5-Element 5.4-cu ft Steam Cleaning Freestanding Electric Range (EasyCare Stainless Steel) Item #: 848340|Model #: LFEF3054TF This was purchased at Lowe's.). Incident: I had made dinner in our Frigidaire oven this evening in our Smooth Surface 5-Element 5.4-cu ft Steam Cleaning Freestanding Electric Range (EasyCare Stainless Steel) Item #: 848340|Model #: LFEF3054TF that we had purchased from Lowe's in September of 2019. We sat down to eat at the dinner table and just after finished eating we heard a huge explosion in the kitchen. We went to go look and there was broken glass scattered all over the floor from the oven. We have lived in many homes and I have 2 ovens in this home and never in my life have I ever experienced anything like this. This is extremely dangerous. I have a young child and dog that regularly sit on the floor in front of this oven and just were doing so about 35 minutes prior to the explosion. If we hadn't been eating they would have been there. UPDATED 2/9/2023: [I just want to emphasize that it was not like a warranty issue like a burner stopped working or anything else. This was a full on safety hazard of an explosion happening in my kitchen. This is a serious issue.] UPDATED 2/13/2023: [REDACTED] [Particularly interesting is the part that says," Chicago glass expert [REDACTED] said many oven manufacturers have switched from borosilicate glass to tempered glass to save money. The problem is tempered glass is not as sturdy as borosilicate which is the same type of glass used in laboratory beakers. Because its tempered it can tolerate a lot more stress, a lot more, [REDACTED] said. Nonetheless, there are times it can be pushed beyond its endurance and it will break. Frigidaire would not tell [REDACTED] what type
