Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20230223-D7974-4114267. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Mainstays MS631000756422 (oil-less fryer). Incident: The consumer is reporting a safety concern. On February 22, 2023, the caller put chicken wings in her practically new oil less fryer and thought there was something on the top left side of it. She picked up her cloth and moved to wipe the side off, but her fingers caught in wires which are bare. If the unit had been turned on, she could have been shocked. She realized that what she thought was something on the unit was a hole that had been burned from the inside out by the exposed copper wiring. She unplugged the unit and removed the food. Product has been used possibly a couple of times per week. Consumer called 1 (866) 321-9509, Bentonville, Arkansas Walmart. Person answering phone offered to send her another oil-less fryer, but she declined. He then provided her with the phone number for the manufacturer (519) 896-9898 which has a voicemail identifying as GHS, Industries in Canada. The consumer left a message asking for a return call, and never receiving a call back.
